Volunteers are the reason the two days actually work. In exchange for a few shifts across the event, you get a free ticket and a behind-the-scenes view of how a community conference comes together, plus a fast route into the crew who build it. It's one of the best ways to meet people if you're arriving on your own.

We set aside a block of scholarship places for people from groups underrepresented in open source and scientific computing, and for anyone for whom the ticket price is a real barrier: students, early-career researchers, and community contributors included. Scholarships cover a full conference ticket, and a limited number also help with travel and accommodation for those coming from further afield.
